I NEVER thought this day would come but.....Brenna decided to try her hand as a hairstylist and CUT HER HAIR!!!!!!!!! I can't believe she did it! We had just finished watching the Disney movie, "Bridge to Terabithia" (for the 3rd time) and I had a feeling that she was going to ask to have her hair like the girl in the movie (short, flipped out hair). Well, I was feeding Eva and as I was changing her diaper I had a feeling to go upstairs and check on the kids. I found them hiding in the closet and as Brenna stepped out, I saw her masterpiece. She had chopped the front and sides and some of the back of her hair to 2 inches long. Brenna looked at me and asked, "Do I look like the girl in the movie?" I screamed, fell to my knees, and sobbed uncontrollably (yes, I was hyperventilating). Her beautiful curly hair was gone! :-( Then I looked at Ethan and he was missing a chunk of hair in the front too.
I've since calmed down, thanks to my level-headed husband who reminded me that it's just hair and it will grow back. We're just glad she didn't get hurt.
She was pretty upset when I told her we'd have to cut off the rest of her hair. With a sad look on her face she said, "I'll look dumb". I was fighting to hold back the tears. Of course I told her she's beautiful no matter what her hair looks like. A nice salon kept their doors open late so we could take her to a professional to fix her mishap. When we got home, Ethan ran out to meet us and said to Brenna, "You're beautiful!" Daddy quickly hugged her and told her she looked like a princess. He then sat with her at the computer and showed her pictures of celebrities and beautiful ladies with short hair. Our daddy is the best!
When she was getting ready for bed she asked, "Will my hair grow back tomorrow?" I reassured her that it will grow back soon and she needs to drink lots of milk to help it grow. Immediately she ran downstairs and drank a glass of milk.
One day I'll look back on this and laugh....but today is not that day. :-(
First there were tears.
Here we have the mullet.
Here is just some of the hair she cut off. I found tons more hair in my bathroom.
We dashed to the salon (notice, again, the mullet).
Brenna's not very happy that we're chopping off her hair. :-(
Short and sweet
The back
This is the hairdo she was going for. This is the girl from the movie, "Bridge to Terabithia". It's a cute style, I have to admit, but she didn't quite get it right.

Oh my gosh Aileen, I would die!!! Especially to have all the cute curls gone! :( Thank goodness she's a cute kid and can pull off the short hair.
It's a good thing she's so adorable. She looks cute in any hair cut and style. I would have probably screamed at her if I was her mom. Although, I did have one who cut her hair. Not quite to the extent that Brenna did, but still enough to have to cut all the curls off. It was a sad day when Whitney looked way too grown up. :)
She looks so cute! At least she cut her own hair! Karly cut her friends hair... I about died when I saw the piles of hair in the garbage and it was the brown of the friend. EEk!
Oh, I would be so sad, but she is still cute! At least she didn't cut off chunks to the scalp. My cousins daughter did that and they just buzzed off her hair! She looked like a litle boy for a while. I hope you are enjoying your new home and neighborhood. Oh, and congrats on your new baby! :)
I totally would have cried hysterically too. And I'm sorry for this but.... hahahahaha, that picture of her in the salon chair- the side view one- that is SO the hairdo I had in 4th grade. It's only funny because she's not my daughter. The good thing is that her hair will probably grow in much thicker now. Don't worry, she still looks way cute!
First thing I though of when I read this post was when you were babysitting us and I cut my whole braid off. Now you got to experience it with your own daughter, how fun! Sad the long curls are gone but she still looks adorable with the short hair, and now you have a funny story to tell!
every kid does it once, i think. it's a great story and she still looks really cute!
This has happened with all of my kids... but with girls it's different! She looks so cute, though and she'll probably stay away from the scissors from now on.
ps. We love Bridge to Terabithia at our house!
She is still beautiful with short hair, but its still tramatic. :) I was so lucky and my kids never did that. Or if they did cut their hair it was never enough for me to even know.
